Enniskillen - Road Users are advised that Forthill Street in Enniskillen has now reopened following a fire in the area earlier today. (19:26)


Belfast - Two sets of temporary traffic signal junctions have been switched on over the weekend as part of the new Transport Hub works. One on Grosvenor Road at the new Transport Hub exit. The other is located on Durham Street at Glengall Street. Please slow down, approach with care and be patient

The Amgen Irish Open with be held at the Royal County Down Golf Course from Wednesday 11th – Sunday 15th September 2024.


Due to the expected number of spectators to this event, there will be increased traffic in and around the Newcastle area and at peak times some delays are expected. 


A free Park and Ride facility will be in place at the Northfield Site accessed at Church Hill Road just off the Castlewellan Road. The Shuttle Bus will drop off and collect spectators in Downs Road Car park. There will also be a “Park and Walk” facility for cars to park at Donard Park and walk to the Open.

 

There will be parking restrictions along the main routes into Newcastle and along Bryansford Avenue, Shimna Road, Main Street (At the Donard Hotel), Shan Slieve Drive and Donard Street (Taxi Drop off and collection point)

 

There will also be several road closures in place to accommodate this event, the full road closures will be on the following roads

 

  • Golf Links Crescent / Road / Avenue and Merrion Avenue (Access will be provided for residents)
  • Carrigs Road at junction with Castlewellan Road (Access for Shuttle Buses and residents only)

 

One way closures will be in place for the following

 

  • Church Hill Road – Park and Ride Traffic and residents will be permitted to travel eastbound
  • Carrigs Road – Traffic permitted to travel westbound from the Park and Ride Site to the junction of Carnacavill Road

Updates will be provided on Trafficwatchni and the TrafficwatchNI X Account @TrafficWatchNI during the Irish Open if necessary.

This will be operational continuously from: Mon 09 Sep 2024 to: Sun 22 Sep 2024.

Belfast - Phoenix Energy will be carrying out planned works to their network on the A20 Upper Newtownards Road from Carrowreagh (Dundonald) down to Hawthornden (East Belfast) commencing at the end of August 2024 through to April 2025.


The works will be undertaken small sections, across four phases:-

Phase 1 Carrowreagh – August to Mid October 2024

Phase 2 Dundonald Village – Mid October to Mid November 2024

Phase 3 Ulster Hospital – Mid to end November 2024

Phase 4 Stormont – January – April 2025

 

Phase 1 Carrowreagh Road to Dunlady Road

commences Monday 26 August 2024 and involves the following

• 1.09km total length

• 7 Week duration ( 26 August – 13 October)

• Traffic Management – Lane 1 City bound / Bus Lane (side roads will have full access throughout)

• Continuous Lane Closure - Rolling site approx. 300m in length

• Major junctions to be completed at weekends

  • Carrowreagh Road junction crossing
  • Robbs Rd/Dunlady Road crossing

Delays possible at peak times - please allow extra time for journeys in this area.

A developer led junction improvement scheme on the A24 Saintfield Road and Knockbracken Road junction will begin on Tuesday 6th August 2024. 


The scheme is expected to last 60 weeks and involves widening the northbound and southbound A24 Saintfield Road carriageway. This will allow for improvements to the signal-controlled junction at the Old Saintfield Road, as well as the signal-controlled junction at the Knockbracken Road.


To facilitate the work, it will be necessary to implement a continuous lane closure on the A24 Saintfield Road. The full-time lane closure will be operational until Monday 2nd September 2024.


Additionally, the Knockbracken Road will be closed at its junction with the A24 Saintfield Road until the citybound widening is complete. A temporary 30mph speed limit will be in place for the duration of the works.

BELFAST - A traffic signal upgrade scheme at the junction of York St, Frederick Street and Great Patrick Street, Belfast will commence on Monday 5 August 2024.

  

In addition to enhanced pedestrian crossing facilities a new road layout will also remove the existing left turn slip lane from Frederick Street into York Street in the direction of the M2. Traffic travelling in this direction will now do so under signal control to further improve pedestrian safety.

 

Various lane and road closures will be required throughout the expected five week duration of the scheme with further details of these closures to be notified on www.trafficwatchni.com.

 

The Department has carefully planned these works and associated traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience to the public. Road users are advised to allow extra time for their journey.

It is hoped that work will be completed by Friday 13th September 2024.

There will be a Lane closure on Bradbury Place from Shaftsbury Square to University Road. 


This will be operational daily 09:30 to 16:30 from Mon 22 Jul 2024 to Fri 13 Sep 2024 (revised completion date)


The closure is to facilitate work by DFI Eastern (New Works & Main Schemes)


The anticipated delay will be less than 5 minutes.

Grosvenor Road lane closure for Public Realm Improvement Programme

 

Belfast - as part of the Belfast Grand Central Station project, there will be significant investment in public realm improvement works around the new station to enhance walking routes, accessibility and cycling.

 

To complete these works requires a lane and footpath closure heading west on Grosvenor Road. The closure will begin before the Durham Street junction and end at the junction with the A12 (Westlink).

 

The left turn onto Durham Street and onto the A12 (Westlink) slip road from Grosvenor Road will remain operational throughout this period.

 

This closure is necessary to enable these essential street works to be carried out efficiently and safely. Other lane and footpath closures associated with this public realm improvement programme will be notified in due course.

 

Translink is encouraging people to consider using public transport to access the city during these works as road users may expect some delays.

A £631,000 carriageway and footway resurfacing scheme on B23 Hillhall Road, Lisburn will commence on Monday 22 July 2024.  

 

The resurfacing scheme will extend from the junction of Drumbeg Road to Carsons Lane.

 

To facilitate the scheme, it will be necessary to implement a daily road closure (Mon to Fri only) on the Hillhall Road between Drumbeg Road and Carsons Lane during the hours of 9.30am and 4.30pm from Monday 22 July 2024 until Friday 13 September 2024.

 

During periods of closure a diversion will operate via Drumbeg Road, Ballyskeagh Road, Church Hill, Lambeg Road, Bells Lane, Queensway, Belfast Road, Seymour Street, Queens Road, Sloan Street, Saintfield Road, Largymore Drive, Hillhall Road and vice versa.


The Department has programmed the work operations and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience, however, while steps have been taken to accommodate local access, road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works and are asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions.  

 

Subject to favourable weather conditions, the works will be substantially complete by Sunday 15 September 2024, however the Department will keep the public informed of any change.

NIW are commencing work to lay a new sewer on the A2 Belfast Road, Carrickfergus.

 

To facilitate this work 2 lanes will be closed continuously on the A2 Belfast Road, Carrickfergus, for the duration of the works, with a contraflow system in place to maintain 2-way traffic flow.


Phase 1 - A2 Shore Road, Carrickfergus, NIW Sewer Laying from Sloefield Drive for a distance of 400m East of Sloefield Drive from Saturday 29th June 2024 – Saturday 24th August 2024.


Phase 2 - Sloefield Drive towards Troopers Lane and under restricted hours – estimated Completion in October.


A temporary 30mph speed limit (where signed) will be in place for the duration of the works. Access for residents and businesses will be available at all times along with signage to direct road users.

 

Road users are encouraged to allow extra time for their journey or seek an alternative route if possible as delays are expected.

Co Tyrone - The Fyfin Road, Sion Mills has been closed adjacent to Victoria Bridge due to a burst water main.

Part of the road has also been washed away. Please seek an alternative route until NI Water can make good repairs. This may take a number of days.

Road improvement scheme for the Hilden area of Lisburn

 

Lisburn - A carriageway and footway resurfacing scheme for the Hilden area of Lisburn will commence on Monday 22 April 2024 from Millbrook Walk to Grand Street and includes Wilson Street.

 

To facilitate the scheme, Roseville Park, Roseville Walk, Barley Hill and Huguenot Drive will be CLOSED (Mon to Fri only). 


between 7.30am and 5.30pm from Monday 22 April 2024 until Friday 20 September 2024


  • During periods of closure a diversion will operate via Victoria Crescent - Wesley Street - Low Road - Grand Street and vice versa.

 

Road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works and to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions.

B15 Glenshesk Road, Ballycastle (between Glenbank Road and Greenan Road) remains closed due to a landslide / partial road collapse on Wednesday 27 March 24.


The road may be closed for the foreseeable future given the severity of the collapse.


Road users should avoid the area and seek an alternative route for their journey.
