Belfast Titanic Triathlon: Sunday 22nd July 2018

he Belfast Titanic Triathlon is held annually in the historic city of Belfast. Transition is situated in the iconic Custom House Square in the heart of the city.

he swim takes places in the Lagan, and the cycle starts at Custom House Square, onto Donegall Quay, across the Queen Elizabeth Bridge and into the Titanic area.

The run route leaves Custom House Square, Donegall Quay, Oxford Street, May Street, Upper Queen Street, Wellington Place, Donegall Square North, Chichester Street, Victoria Street back to Custom House Square. There are 2 loops of this route for the sprint distance and 4 loops for the olympic distance. Roads will be closed for the run event from 8.30am - 12.30pm.

Closures
• Great Patrick Street at its junction with York Street (City Bound), Waring Street, Albert Square, Queen Elizabeth Bridge, Queen’s Quay, Middlepath Street to junction with Dalton Street closed to vehicular traffic from 7.30am to 11:30am.
• Ann Street from Oxford Street to Victoria Street closed to vehicular traffic from 6am to 12.30pm.
• May Street from Oxford Street to Victoria Street closed to vehicular traffic from 6am to 12.30pm. Access will be retained for St George’s Market traders.
• Victoria Street from May Street to Chichester Street closed to vehicular traffic from 6am to 12.30pm.

Lane Restriction

A single right hand lane will be restricted between 7.30am to 12.30pm on Oxford Street, May Street, Donegall Square South, Donegall Square West, Donegall Square North, Chichester Street and Victoria Street.

Harbour Estate Titanic Quarter / Sydenham Rd / West Bank Rd

Belfast Harbour Police advise construction will take place for two Belfast Rapid Transit stops on Sydenham Road outside the Odyssey/SSE in both directions.  

Contractors will be on site from 20th July for the City Bound stop and 23rd July for the Country Bound stop with works expected to be completed on both by 2nd August 2018.

There will be lane closures for the duration of the construction work which may reduce traffic to one lane in each direction.

When Belfast Rapid Transit goes live in September 2018 the lanes will be for Buses Only and the Belfast Rapid Transit Route within Titanic Quarter and Sydenham Road will reduce to one lane in each direction for other traffic.

Belfast Harbour Police advise West Bank Road will be restricted to one lane (city bound) around the existing Victoria Terminal 2 entrance/ exit from 30/07/18 for a period of 3 weeks, due to the construction of a new entrance

ULSTER HOSPITAL MAIN ENTRANCE CLOSED 25-27 JULY 2018

Please note that the junction at the main entrance to the Ulster Hospital adjacent to East Link Road will be closed between the hours of 7.30 pm and 6.00 am from Wednesday 25th July 2018 to Friday 27 July 2018 to facilitate resurfacing of the road as part of the infrastructure improvement work which has been ongoing for a number of weeks on the main Upper Newtownards Road.

Traffic diversions will be in place from the junction at the Upper Newtownards Road and Comber Road diverting traffic coming from Belfast onto the Comber Road A22 and onto the Grahamsbridge Road/Church Road/Robbs Road back on to the Upper Newtownards Road at the Dunlady Road junction. This will operate in reverse for traffic coming from the Newtownards and Bangor areas.  This route will avoid the main entrance to the hospital.  Diversion points at the Comber Road and the Ballyregan Road will be manned by the contractor to provide assistance to the public/staff as required. 

Access and exiting from the Ulster Hospital, Dundonald for all vehicles including the emergency services will be either via the service close to the Comber Road Junction or via Ballyregan Road/Stoney Road through the rear entrance to the hospital. 

Pedestrians should be aware of emergency services accessing these alternative routes and take care especially on the Stoney Road. 

Signage will be provided on the Ulster Hospital site to help guide staff and visitors. 

Please allow extra time for your journey to the hospital.

Belfast - A24 Saintfield Rd - Lane Closure Out of Town

Castlereagh - A24 Saintfield Road will have a continuous 24/7 lane closure heading out of town from Beechill Avenue to Cairnshill Road (travelling towards Carryduff) from From Monday 23 July until Friday 24 August. 

The lane closure is to facilitate utility work to construct a manhole and duct installation.

Foyle Maritime Festival 14th July-22nd July 2018

Motorists are advised to allow extra time for journeys in and around Queen's Quay, Derry/Londonderry for the duration of the Foyle Maritime Festival (Saturday 14th July - Sunday 22nd July 2018). There will be a lane closure in place on Queen's Quay during the festival.

A26 Moira Road near Glenavy – footbridge resurfacing works

A26 Moira Road near Glenavy – footbridge and resurfacing works

  • Ongoing works during July and August.  A temporary 40mph speed limit has been introduced in the vicinity of the works and a temporary crossing point has been provided at the location for the duration the footbridge is removed to help pedestrians cross the road safely.  Motorists should take care of any pedestrians crossing the road at this location.
  • This is a route used for people travelling back and forwards to Belfast International Airport and we would advise those travelling on these dates to allow some extra time if getting a flight or picking somebody up.

Belfast: Lane Closure on Oxford St until 24th August 2018

Belfast: There are lanes closed on Oxford Street from Ann Street towards May Street. The lanes will be closed continuously for 12 weeks until Friday 24th August 2018. Motorists should allow extra time for journeys.

The lane closures are to facilitate sewer works.

North Down Ballysallagh Rd Bangor Lane Closure 8 May-16 Aug

North Down - a lane closure is now in place on B170 Ballysallagh Road, Bangor from its junction with the Crawfordsburn Road and junction of the Holywood Road / Whinney Hill - for 14 weeks (16 August 2018). The lane closure is to facilitate the laying of a gas main.

Temporary traffic control will be in place, delays of up to 5 minutes are possible - Motorists are advised to allow extra time for journeys.

Belfast - Rapid Transit Scheme

Belfast Rapid Transit (BRT) is an innovative and ambitious project that will create a new and dynamic public transport system for Belfast. BRT will provide fast and reliable services connecting East and West Belfast, Titanic Quarter and key locations of economic and social activity in the city centre and along the BRT corridors.

Current work locations:

  • Upper Newtownards Road (Knock Rd to Dunlady Rd) – Full time Lane closures expected until June 2018
  • BRT Halts – Short length, off-peak lane closures on all BRT routes to accommodate construction of new halts until June 2018

New on iOS & Android - Belfast Metro Bus Tracker App

Department for Infrastructure and Translink have launched an App for real time bus information at all Metro bus stops called Belfast Bus Tracker.

The App gives immediate access to real time information about bus services across the Metro network in the Greater Belfast area.

Using the built-in GPS features of your smart phone to work out where you are, the App will provide real time, audio and visual public transport information whilst at the bus stop, at home, at work or on the move.

The App is available now to download for free from iOS and Android App Stores

The App features allow you to:

  • Save your favourite stops;
  • Follow your bus on its route to your stop;
  • Find bus stops by address or near your current location; and
  • Check current and future bus schedules.
