Accessibility Statement
Department for Infrastructure Northern Ireland (DfI NI) is committed to making its Traffic Watch NI website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
This accessibility statement applies to the “Traffic Watch NI” website located at https://www.trafficwatchni.com.
This website is run by Department for Infrastructure Northern Ireland (DfI NI). We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:
- Change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings
- Zoom in up to 400% without text spilling off the screen
- Navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software
- Listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.
AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability, see ‘My Computer My Way’ at https://mcmw.abilitynet.org.uk
How accessible this website is
The website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.
We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:
- You cannot modify the line height or spacing of text
- Live CCTV images do not have captions
- You cannot skip to the main content when using a screen reader
- There’s a limit to how far you can magnify the map on our 'Home' page
Feedback and contact information
We’re always looking to improve the accessibility of this website. If you find any problems not listed on this page or think we’re not meeting accessibility requirements, contact us via Belfast.TICC@infrastructure-ni.gov.uk and we will investigate the issue.
Enforcement procedure
The Equality Commission for Northern Ireland (ECNI) is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the ‘accessibility regulations’) in Northern Ireland. If you’re not happy with how we respond to your complaint, contact the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland (ECNI) at https://www.equalityni.org.
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
The content that is not accessible is outlined below with details of:
- the accessibility problem(s),
- where it fails the success criteria,
- and when DfI NI plans to fix it.
Page structure
There are some empty headings on some pages.
The “share to social media” third party component is rendering blank elements prior to being used. It is planned to remove this component in the next 6 months by Junel 2025.
The cameras page lists all available cameras and allows the user to find and view a camera in a pop-up window. The hyperlink for the camera is repeated twice and is not compatible with WCAG 2.4.4 This can cause confusion for screen readers. It is planned to update this in the next 3 months by March 2025.
The Journey times page has 2 orphaned form labels, this is not compatible with WCAG 2.4.6. The From and To labels are not associated with the Form control. It is planned to update this in the next 3 months by March 2025.
Documents
- The two pdf documents on the Strangford Lough Ferry page are missing a Title in the document properties.
- The Tickets and Smartcard pdf document is missing table headings and has 1 contrast issue.
It is planned to update these documents within the next 3 months, by March 2025.
Disproportionate burden
Maps
The map shown on the Home, Roadworks and Camera pages is sourced from Google. The map does contain a small number of elements that are not compatible with the WCAG 2.2 AA standard, such as small text, table layout, redundant text title and empty alternative text. We do not have any control over the map content and map icons and details are rendered. The information displayed spatially on the map is provided in a list format elsewhere on the site.
Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
Live images
The Traffic Watch NI website displays traffic camera images. These are refreshed every 2 seconds and shows a snapshot picture of the current traffic for a specific traffic camera. There is no caption displayed with this image.
